Lacosamide is generally safe and well tolerated when used to treat patients with painful diabetic neuropathy, investigators announced here at the 60th Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Neurology (AAN). Lacosamide (LCM) is an anticonvulsant under investigation for its potential effect in decreasing diabetic neuropathic pain.

Boston Scientific Corporation (NYSE: BSX) announced results from a pooled analysis of patients from its TAXUS IV and TAXUS V randomized clinical trials. The analysis compared the safety and efficacy of the TAXUS(R) Express(TM) Paclitaxel-Eluting Coronary Stent System in diabetic versus non-diabetic patients.

Oramed Pharmaceuticals Inc. has been granted approval by the Institutional Review Board (IRB) committee of Hadassah Medical Center in Jerusalem to conduct a Phase 2A study of its oral insulin on diabetic volunteers. This Phase 2A study is designed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of Oramed's oral insulin capsule on Type II diabetic volunteers.

Associated Foot & Ankle Specialists announced it is recruiting patients with foot ulcers due to diabetes to participate in the MATRIX clinical trial. The trial will study the effects of a new product, Excellarate, for the potential treatment of patients with non-healing diabetic foot ulcers. Excellarate is an investigational product designed to stimulate the process of wound healing.
